More women making it as envoys

What say you on the issue below?

MALAYSIAN women diplomats are often an unsung force, but behind the scenes their numbers are growing steadily and more are making it to the top rung as ambassadors, said Tamil Nesan in its special report.

The latest to join the list is Kulim-born economics graduate V. Sudha Devi, 49, who will be heading to Brazil, the world’s fifth largest country.

She received her letter of appointment from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Oct 7, and would replace retired Ismail Mustapha.

Sudha Devi has been with Wisma Putra for 23 years and had been posted to Switzerland, Singapore and Germany.

Currently, she said, woman envoys were heading missions that include The Hague, Poland, Romania, Vietnam, Senegal and Croatia.

> The daily also quoted Kota Alam Shah assemblyman M. Manoharan as question-ing whether newly formed Malaysian Makkal Sakti Party leader R.S. Thanenthiran could ensure if the Indians received the same benefits given to the bumiputra.

He said it would be a respected party if it got the rights and benefits due to the Indians.

Manoharan added that Thanenthiran had hijacked the Makkal Sakti slogan for his own political agenda after failing to be a candidate for the Bukit Selambau by-election.
