A veritable feast for the senses

What say you on the issue below?

A COLOURFUL spread of some 200 dishes is what guests can expact when dining at Warisan Cafe in the palatial The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur.

It is a veritable feast for the senses with the varieties dished up by the five different kitchens — which the hotel terms as ‘continents’ — namely Asian, Western, Middle Eastern, Japanese and Malay.

Its coffee house chef Jason Manson said the 200 dishes included the small bite-size items served in dainty spoons and cups. The line is rotated on a daily basis.

Wide variety: From salads and appetisers to main courses, there are some 200 dishes dished up in the five different kitchens to satisfy any appetite.

And, UOB cardholders have even more reason to dine there as they are entitled to 25% off the total bill when they pay with their card. The promotion is valid until Dec 31.

Starters, like the variety of bread with cheese, or hot broths, like Spicy Sour Szechuan Soup and Cauliflower Soup, are definitely a great way to help warm the tummy or whet the appetite.

The Japanese counter is a popular section with its offerings of fresh sashimi and sushi rolls.

Not to be missed either are the piping hot tempura and the Miso soup, for which diners help themselves to the ingredients.

Over at the Malay section, there are the must-haves Ulam-ulam and Kerabu and various Malay main staples.

A la carte order: The Warisan Cafe Mee Mamak that comes with a huge prawn is certainly a draw.

At the Western section, guests can have various pasta dishes cooked to order and pizzas straight out of the oven.

At the Asian counter, the selection of main courses is definitely tempting. On the day StarMetro was there, the Marinated Slipper Lobster with Citron Blanc was so popular that each serving plate was emptied almost as soon as it was put down. The firm, delicate flesh of the crustacean was a delight.

Other dishes available included Vegetable Eight Treasure with Oyster Sauce, Ayam Percik Warisan, Beef Cinnamon, Mee Rebus Warisan and Chicken Rice.

Sweet treats: A colourful assortment of cakes and puddings to end your meal.

Middle Eastern flavours are obvious in the plates of hummus — a dip or spread made from mashed cooked chickpeas blended with other ingredients — that is popular throughout the Middle East, which can be eaten with bread.

Other dishes include Chicken and Beef Shawarma with Condiments and Chicken Tajine.

To complete the meal, there is an assortment of colourful and tempting desserts like mini French pastries and the specialty Warisan Cheese Cake which are an irresistible treat!

There are three dining areas, each with a different setting, where guests can enjoy their meal — the main hall wherein guests can dine in air-conditioned comfort, the open-air terrace adjoining the conservatory where the cascading waterfalls in the Taman Mahsuri Courtyard helps create the perfect ambience, or in the privacy of the mezzanine floor above the main cafe.

According to the hotel’s public relations manager, Rohzillah Datuk Mastor, the tie-up promotion with UOB is also available at the newly opened L’Heritage that serves contemporary French cuisine, and will later be extended to the Tai Ping Chinese Restaurant when it opens in November.

The international buffet lunch is priced at RM65++, the international buffet dinner at RM75++ and weekend high tea at RM65++.
