KUALA LUMPUR: Police shot dead two suspected robbers at separate locations in Equine Park in Seri Kembangan and Gohtong Jaya in Genting Highlands yesterday.
The two, believed to be dangerous and high on the wanted list, were involved in at least three bank robberies in the Klang Valley.
These include the latest at Taman Segar, Cheras’ Hong Leong Bank two days before Hari Raya Aidilfitri in which a security guard was gunned down.
City CID chief SAC II Datuk Ku Chin Wah said crack teams from the Kuala Lumpur and Bukit Aman serious crime division spotted the suspects in separate vehicles in Subang Jaya at around 2pm.
The team tailed the men, one driving a Honda Accord towards Equine Park, and another driving a Toyota Estima towards Genting Highlands.
He said the first suspect realised that he was being followed and sped off, but came to an abrupt halt a while later when his car was blocked by another vehicle near a traffic light.
The suspect got out of his vehicle and opened fire at the cops, but was gunned down instead. The 33-year-old was killed on the spot, and his car riddled with over 20 bullet holes.
Police then recovered a .38 calibre revolver from the dead man. The other suspect was cornered by another police team in Jalan Gohtong Jaya at about 3.30pm, but the 41-year-old refused to stop, and headed up Genting Highlands.
“Police then opened fire, killing him on the spot.
“A Smith and Wesson revolver was recovered from the suspect’s car,” said SAC Ku.
He added that police are now on the lookout for the remaining gang members.
