Special Maxis-Saudi Telecom deal for pilgrims

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian pilgrims performing the Haj and umrah can enjoy affordable communications during their journey to Mecca in Saudi Arabia now that the Maxis Communications Berhad and its group partner Saudi Telecom Company have launched a local roaming number service.

With the service, customers can make or receive calls within Saudi Arabia at local rates, via Saudi Telecom.

It also allows direct dialling for Malaysians to call home at Saudi Telecom International Direct Dialling rates.

A Maxis press release said the service also supports voice and video calls. However, normal roaming charges apply to SMS, value added services and data usage.

The programme is a corporate partnership initiated by the Lembaga Tabung Haji.

Maxis announced the local roaming service after the launch of the Sahabat Korporat Tabung Haji programme for the second year.

On Thursday, its vice and Head of Enterprise and Carrier Business Division president Fitri Abdullah presented Maxis’ contribution of RM850,000 in value to the Lembaga Tabung Haji.

The service would be built into a special Hotlink SIM packs and Maxis would distribute 50,000 of the packs free of charge to pilgrims performing their Haj and umrah this year.Each pack is pre-loaded with RM4 airtime from Maxis and 5 Saudi Riyal airtime from Saudi Telecom.
