Residents of the Flora Damansara apartments want problems solved

What say you on the issue below?

RESIDENTS and home owners of the Flora Damansara apartments in Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya, have been facing endless problems that they feel could have been easily rectified by the developer.

“Since we moved in last year, the ceiling has been leaking and cracks have appeared on the tiled floors, but they were not repaired at all,” said Flora Damansara Residents Association chairman Ho Fook Chuan.

Ho felt it was the developer’s duty to solve such petty problems and bear the cost of the repairs without being told to do so.

“We feel the developer should help us rectify the faults even if the ‘defect liability period’ has expired,” said Ho, whose unit is in Block H.

Meanwhile, Rachel Tan, who lives in Block E, said she had to wade through pools of stagnant water in the car park, the ceiling of which was also leaking.

One of the flaws: Cracks in the floor of a bedroom in one of the apartments.

“More often than not, we can’t even park our cars in the parking lots we had purchased when we bought our units.

“What is the point of paying RM18,000 for the lot when we have to look for somewhere else to park our cars each time?” said Tan.

Another resident, Chai Soon Lim, said he had to walk up five floors each day after parking in the basement car park as the lift had been abandoned for more than a year now.

“They just left the lift as though it was an uncompleted project. It is not only inconvenient for us but it also poses a danger to young children playing around the area,” Chai said.

The residents said they had previously lodged complaints with the developer through letters and phone calls but were told to compile a list of the problems and pictures and send it in instead.

“We have done that but we feel the developer should visit us to discuss the issues, and see the problems first hand,” said Ho, who held a meeting with the other residents recently.

Ho had invited Bukit Lanjan assembleyman Elizabeth Wong to the meeting to hear their grouses and to hand over a memorandum to her, but Wong was represented by her assistant Loo Chuan Boon.

In the memorandum, the residents asked for a thorough safety check on the Flora Damansara buildings after cracks were spotted in many areas.

They also hope that all the rectification work can be completed by Feb 1, 2010, with fortnightly reports to notify them of the work taking place.

Ho said all work should also be listed in a detailed plan, complete with expected date of completion.
