Move to register Pakatan as coalition

What say you on the issue below?

GEORGE TOWN: Moves are afoot to register Pakatan Rakyat as a legal entity under the Societies Act, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said.

However, he added, it had to be “formulated and discussed first” at the Pakatan convention in December.

Lim was commenting on Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof’s suggestion that the opposition parties register Pakatan with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) as a legal entity like the Barisan Nasional to enable them to campaign as a coalition.

Meanwhile, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Barisan was not worried about the opposition parties’ intention to register themselves as a coalition.

“They have so many glaring differences between them that it may be impossible for them to amend their party constitutions without causing any conflict,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

He added that the opposition parties were merely seeking to project an illusion that they were a united team.

“What form of a common accord that the opposition parties are going to create?” he asked.

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, who represents DAP in the Pakatan secretariat to register the coalition, said ROS must stick to its word that it would register Pakatan as an official coalition when the Opposition provided the necessary documents.

Asked why Pakatan has taken so long to register itself as a coalition, PKR strategy director Tian Chua said the pact was only officially launched after the March 8 general elections last year.
