PORT DICKSON: Police want PAS vice president Salahuddin Ayob to give his statement over allegations that party supporters were badly beaten up by Umno Youth members early Thursday morning.
State police chief SAC I Datuk Osman Salleh said bloggers from Malaysian Insider and Harakah Daily should also assist in the probe as they had highlighted the alleged assault.
“In these blogs, Salahuddin was carrying a picture of a PAS member bleeding from his head and with serious injuries to his face.
“We carried out our own investigations and there is no one with such terrible injuries,” he told reporters. PAS had also claimed that one of its supporters was slashed with a samurai sword and was admitted to the Port Dickson Hospital.
Osman said police received a report from a PAS supporter who claimed he was beaten but his injuries were not as severe.

He said Salahuddin’s claim was misleading and people might believe his story.
“We have lodged a report against both the Malaysian Insider and Harakah Daily and the matter is being investigated. It is dangerous to make such claims as it could lead to unnecessary tension and animosity,” he added. “We have contacted Salahuddin but he has not come forward to give his statement,” he said.
The matter, he said, would also be investigated under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Salahuddin would be compelled to be present to have his statement recorded.
Police would also investigate an SMS sent out on Thursday claiming that supporters from both sides were preparing for a fight in the run-up to the by-election.
“The sender’s objective is to instil fear among voters not to come out to vote,” he said.
