BATU PAHAT: A 43-year-old Mersing Muni-cipal Council staff claimed trial to two counts of graft amounting to RM6,000 at a Sessions Court here.
Technician Nasarudin Jaafar was charged with asking for RM5,000 from a woman at a hotel lobby in Kluang at about 5.30pm in Oct 2006 to help Rantau Damai Enterprise obtain a road-surfacing project in Jamaluang, Mersing.
He was also charged with receiving RM1,000 bribe from the same woman at a premise in Jalan Tinggi 2, Sri Lalang in Kluang on Nov 7, 2006.
The accused could face not more than 20-years imprisonment and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe or RM10,000 for each offence upon conviction.
Sessions Court Judge Mohd Hardar Abdul Aziz granted bail at RM6,000 in one surety and set Dec 22 and Dec 23 for trial.
The accused posted the bail. DPP Mohd Taufik Khamis prosecuted the case while the accused was not represented.
At another Sessions Court here, trader Chong Meng Fong, 36, pleaded not guilty to bribing Malaysia Palm Oil Board enforcement officer Rushdan Muda with RM2,000.
He had allegedly committed the offence at Batu 39 1/2 of the Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam road at about 1.30pm on Nov 3 last year.
The bribe was allegedly given so that no action would be taken against Chong who was in possession of palm oil illegally.Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat set Jan 6 for trial and granted bail at RM5,000 with a surety. The accused posted bail.
