KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA central committee will meet at 1pm on Thursday to discuss the outcome of yesterday’s extraordinary general meeting.

Party secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng said the meeting would also touch on the future direction of the party.

Wong, in a statement issued after the EGM, urged party members and the public not to make any comment or speculative remarks related to the EGM prior to the central committee meeting.

“This is to stabilise the party and avoid any confusion,” he said.

Earlier at Wisma MCA, Wong said any decision on party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat would be left to the central committee.

“For the moment, we go by the resolutions passed at the EGM,” he told reporters after the results of the EGM were announced.

Asked whether the EGM results would have any bearing on the Bagan Pinang by-election on Sunday, he said “no”.

“There is no implication or link to Bagan Pinang. It’s purely our internal party matter. We decide on our own problems,” he said.
