FEDERAL Territories Minister Raja Datuk Nong Chik Raja Zainal wants to create a win-win situation for everyone with regard to the road dispersal project taking shape in Brickfields and Bangsar.

Raja Nong Chik said that it was important to get feedback from all stakeholders before any decisions were made.

“We hope that a compromise can be reached for the benefit of all as there are mixed reactions towards the project.

“The government has allocated a budget for this project and if the stakeholders are really not keen on it, the money can be used for other areas,” he said at the FT Hari Raya and Deepavali 2009 celebrations at Lake Titiwangsa on Oct 18.

Also present at the event was Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail, who said that they would take one month to collect feedback from the relevant stakeholders.

“The main objective of the project is to improve traffic and we do not want the problem to come back to us later,” he said.

The proposed traffic solution under the RM110mil stimulus packages, include Package 1: construction of flyover at Jalan Travers/Jalan Bangsar Intersection; Package 2: construction of flyover from KL Sentral to Jalan Damansara and the Mahameru Highway; Package 3: upgrading of Jalan Tun Sambanthan and its vicinity; Package 4: construction of pedestrian bridges and linkages; Package 5: upgrade and repair roads in KL Sentral; and Package 6: construction of elevated road from Jalan Bangsar to Jalan Maarof.

Many residents from Brickfields are against the move to turn Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad into a one-way street.

In conjunction with the celebration, Raja Nong Chik distributed RM100 each to 237 people including the poor, the handicapped, elderly folks and single mothers from Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Raja Nong Chik also mentioned that the FT budget for next year will be focused on transportation, housing and urban poor.

More than 10,000 people from Klang Valley attended the event, which was themed Satu Wilayah Persekutuan Satu Raya.
