PUTRAJAYA: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has expressed concern that the MCA leadership crisis would have a direct impact on Barisan Nasional.
“I think what happened in the MCA will not have a direct impact on Umno, but my concern is if what happened in MCA will have an impact on the Barisan,” he said after attending the Home Ministry’s Hari Raya celebration here.
On whether the MCA leadership crisis would be discussed at the Umno general assembly to be held from today to Friday, he said, they would not interfere in a component party’s affairs.
In Kuala Lumpur, former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should intervene to help resolve the MCA leadership crisis in his capacity as Barisan Nasional chairman.
“Well, I must confess that when I was president of Barisan, I did interfere, but quietly lah, belakang tabirlah (behind the scenes), not openly. Otherwise, people will become a bit sensitive,” he told reporters after attending the launch of a book series Amanat Presiden Umno 1946-2009.
