PORT DICKSON: The voter turnout for the Bagan Pinang by-election is expected be more than 80% , the Election Commission said.
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof reminded voters to cast their vote early once polling begins at 8am, adding that intermittent rain is expected here today.
He said party supporters should stay away from the 18 polling centres when the election results are announced.
Abdul Aziz warned vote canvassers not to erect huts or “pondok panas” too near the polling centres as party supporters would gather there and cause difficulty to voters.
“No more car stickers will be issued to party workers who want to transport voters to the polling centres ,” he told reporters at SJKC Sua Betong after inspecting final preparations for polling day here yesterday.
Abdul Aziz said turnout for postal voting at the army camps and district police headquarters here on Thursday was 97%, involving 4,604 voters.
A total of 1,807 out of 1,877 soldiers stationed at the various army camps here had cast their ballots while 27 of 31 policemen have fulfilled their responsibility, he added.
There are 13,664 registered voters in Bagan Pinang. Malay voters make up 62.8 %, followed by Indians (20.7%), Chinese (11%) and others (5.5%).
