THE Brickfields police along with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) are coming down hard on illegal parking boys who seemed to have returned to prey on unsuspecting motorists.
The illegal touts who are most notorious for prowling the streets of Bangsar and Desa Sri Hartamas have begun harassing drivers and demanding parking fees.
According to Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid regular operations are being conducted by the police and DBKL authorities to purge the streets of these illegal touts.
He said the issue which was highlighted by StarMetro recently had spurred the authorities into action.
“A team from the Travers police station have been conducting patrols along the streets, which have been identified as problem areas,” he said.
He said they conducted regular police patrols in Bangsar Baru, Desa Sri Hartamas and Mont Kiara.
He added the men caught were fined RM2,000 each and had their log books and ticket books confiscated.
ACP Wan Abdul Bari said further action could be taken if the men were found to have threatened the public or caused damage to vehicles. He added the public must also do their part in helping authorities combat the illegal touts.
“We need the public to inform us on their whereabouts,” he said.
He added that the police were making every effort necessary to eradicate the problem.
