KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia should be commended for having a system in which there are advisory committees in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, said an anti corruption consultant.

Former deputy commissioner of Hong Kong’s Independent Commis-sion Against Corruption Tony Kwok Man Wai said there were very few countries which had this system.

“The setting up of the advisory committees have been successfully practised in Hong Kong for 30 years and introduces a system of check and balance in anti corruption work,” he said after a close door seminar at the MACC academy here yesterday.

The committees includes the Anti-Corruption advisory board, special committee on corruption, complaints committee, operation review panel, corruption consultation and prevention panel.

He said governments in many countries restricted resources and powers of anti corruption agencies which stifled their effectiveness.

“I have visited more than 21 countries after retiring but very few have this system,” he added.
