Centre for injured sportsmen and workers likely

MUADZAM SHAH: A dedicated centre that attends to both injured sportsmen and workers is likely to be implemented in the near future.

Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Maznah Mazlan said the idea came about after a recent visit to New Zealand.

“The centre in Manukau City attends to members of the public, who have been injured at workplaces, as well as sportsmen.

“Those injured go to the centre to inquire matters relating to compensation, aid or for a suitable rehabilitation programme,” she told reporters after closing a district-level pre-school carnival at SK Perantau Damai here yesterday.

She added that in New Zealand, all matters relating to compensation and aid for injured workers were dealt with by one body, unlike in Malaysia where different agencies and departments handle such cases.

Maznah also said that in the centre in New Zealand, an agent was responsible over 55 cases.

She said a memorandum of understanding has also been signed between Malaysia and New Zealand on bilateral issues involving human resource development, skill training programmes and education.
