Brickfields bazaar may be smaller but visitors like the central location

What say you on the issue below?

COME Deepavali season, Little India in Brickfields bursts into life with an added buzz of people, activity and colour.

The area around Jalan Tun Sambanthan features many stalls that offer various Indian products, ranging from clothes, food and home decorations to Indian jewellery and beauty services.

Many Indians find the area a perfect place to shop compared with other areas in Kuala Lumpur like Masjid India and Lebuh Ampang.

Yummy: Deepavali delicacies are also available at Klang’s Little India.

It is even comparable with more popular destinations like the ones in Klang and Seremban.

Many shoppers attribute accessibility and variety as the two reasons for the popularity of Little India in Brickfields.

Shoba Maniam, 29, feels that public transport linking KL Sentral helps a lot in bringing shoppers to the area without much problems.

She said the area was often congested, but public transport gave people an easier option.

“You can drive here, but parking may be a problem. Most times, people park along the main road or the inner roads, which causes more congestion.

Decorative: Brickfields has all the necessary items to spruce up the home for the festive season.

“As the LRT station is nearby, I travel here by train and it saves me the hassle of looking for parking. Taxis are also easily available here,” Shoba, who lives in Ampang, said.

Meanwhile, R. Yogeswary, 53, said the shops at Brickfields offered a good variety and all the things needed for Deepavali preparations.

“Everything, especially Indian spices and ingredients for Indian cooking, are easily available here at a reasonable price so I don’t need to travel to other areas like Klang.

“Besides, the congestion there is even worse and the place is further away from my home in Sentul,” she said.

Sheila Vellaian, 34, also agrees that the area, although smaller than the others, has everything one would need for Deepavali.

“There are clothes, food and home decorations. So why would I need to travel way out to go to other areas?

“If I am not happy with the price, I can always bargain. Besides, the congestion in Klang is worse than it is here,” Sheila, who lives in Subang Jaya, said.

Sheila added that there were parking and security issues in the area, but that was long accepted by those who shopped there.

“Parking and security are an issue everywhere and not just in Brickfields.

“We just have to take the necessary precautions to be more careful with our belongings,” she said.
