An afternoon of reading and acting out stories

What say you on the issue below?

A fun programme called outLOUD Dream Chaserz was held for children aged between seven and 15 at the 1Utama shopping mall recently.

It was organised by outLOUD Academy and its partner, MPH, at the MPH book store at 1Utama.

Several children from various welfare homes in the Klang Valley also took part in the activity.

The programme was designed to help children improve their visual, auditory and kinesthetic skills.

The afternoon was filled with fun games and activities that challenged the children individually as well as in a team.

Programme organiser Samantha Siew said: “We designed these activities and games specifically to help develop children’s confidence and communication skills.

“outLOUD Dream Chaserz seeks to fulfill this development gap that is often undermined,” she said.

The highlight of the workshop was a story-telling and story-acting session where the children had great fun listening, answering questions and acting to the story.

“It is a great medium to encourage reading and enhance their comprehension during the story-telling.

Their response was amazing especially during story-acting where children get to enjoy, act and become part of the story,” said Dessy Barnaby, one of the programme facilitators.

The workshop wrapped up with an Art Crafting session, using fully recycled resources for the children to create artsy greeting cards, postcards as well as photo frames which they get to own as their workshop creation.

“Our children have to learn to be responsible to themselves and the environment.

“This recycling project helps to enhance their creativity and resourcefulness. The perfect time to start inculcating such values is when they are still young,” added Siew.

She said the programme emphasised the importance of shaping children since young to create a strong-to-the-core foundation to encourage better character development.
