Respect MCA’s decision and move on, says group

PETALING JAYA: MCA members should respect the results of the extraordinary general meeting and move on as soon as possible, Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong) said.

Its president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah said the association was shocked and concerned about the result but hoped that the members would remain calm and rational.

“We respect the decisions made by the MCA central delegates. Whoever leads the party in the future has a great responsibility to unite the party again,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Pheng said that after resolving the party’s internal conflict, the party should try its best to serve and contribute to the Chinese community.

“As the biggest Chinese political party in the nation, it is important for MCA to be united as it helps to stabilise and unite the Chinese community,” he said.

The association would continue to work with MCA and other Chinese political parties to serve the Chinese better and be their voice, said Pheng.

“The Chinese community, associations and political parties cannot afford to have another split. We should unite, gather our strength and help each other,” he said.

Federation of Malaysia Chinese Guilds Association president Lim Kee Boon said the MCA should focus on strengthening itself following the EGM.

“This is not something we like to see but it is what the delegates voted for, so we have to accept it.

On how this would affect the Chinese community, Lim said friction within MCA was not a new thing.

“Of course this is also not something we want to see. No matter what, the Chinese associations will continue to work together to serve the Chinese community.

“We will stick together as we are in the same boat,” he said.
