PUTRAJAYA: A police report containing allegations against Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has been referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

MACC deputy commissioner Datuk Abu Kassim Mohammed confirmed the commission had received information on the case.

In an immediate response, Liow said he would cooperate with the MACC and urged that investigations be carried out as soon as possible.

Abu Kassim said the commission would study the report first before deciding on the next course of action.

Asked to elaborate, he refused to divulge details. “We need to protect its confidentiality. Be patient and do not speculate. Let us do our job,” he told reporters at the commission’s Hari Raya open house yesterday.

The allegations against the MCA deputy president were made via an unsigned letter which has been widely circulated on the Internet. It has also been published in the news portal Malaysia Today.

The police report was lodged by DAP’s Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng and PKR’s Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo Burne at the Sentul police station on Sunday.

The letter alleged that a company, often awarded projects by the Health Ministry, had bought a RM574,884.10 multi-purpose vehicle for Liow’s wife. It also alleged payments had been made into her account.

Liow said he had lodged a report at the Putrajaya police station over the matter.

“I will cooperate with the police and the MACC,” he said.
