IPOH: The Perak State Assembly will be held on Oct 28 with the tabling of the state budget.
Assembly Speaker Datuk R. Ganesan yesterday confirmed that notices on the matter had been sent to all 59 assemblymen.
He said the notice was issued yesterday after he received the consent and proclamation from the Sultan.
“I hope everyone including the Opposition will abide by the rules by attending the assembly,” he said yesterday.
Asked on reports that former Pakatan Rakyat Speaker V. Sivakumar would also be issuing his own notices on the matter, Ganesan said:
“My advice to them (Opposition) is to act like responsible state assemblymen. They should accept the reality that they no longer command the majority of the Assembly.”
On the possibility of a confrontation between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan assemblymen, Ganesan said they were ready to face the possiblity.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said talk of Sivakumar issuing notices and the chaos anticipated from the Opposition during the sitting showed that Pakatan assemblymen would not boycott the meeting as was reportedly planned.
“This is their game to confuse the people. They want to attend but they do not want to be seen as recognising Ganesan as Speaker. As such, they have to resort to all kinds of tactics.”
Zambry also reminded assemblymen Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham and Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin that they would be breaking their word if they attended the meeting, as both had publicly announced that they would boycott it.
