A TOTAL of 480 underprivileged students in Negri Sembilan received RM48,000 from numbers forecaster Da Ma Cai recently as part of the company’s Student Aid 2009 programme.
Students from 16 schools in Seremban, Port Dickson, Tampin and Mantin benefited from the goodwill gesture and each received RM100.
Pan Malaysian Pools Sdn Bhd Malacca manager Lim Swee Kuen said Da Ma Cai and its selling agents would be giving out RM1.1mil in aid of the programme this year alone.
“More than 11,000 students from 350 schools nationwide will stand to benefit from Student Aid 2009.
“It’s part of our company’s efforts to contribute to the community and the welfare of students has always been a priority,” he said after presenting the ‘angpow’ to students who gathered at SJK (C) Sin Hua in Seremban.
The programme, in its 19th year, was launched by Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong in Ipoh last month.
Under the programme, schools earmarked as recipients by Da Ma Cai selling agents select 30 students each who most deserve the cash aid.
Lim said the Student Aid programme aimed to provide students with basic schooling necessities to better prepare them for the academic year ahead.
“It may not be much but we hope our contribution helps children from the lower income group purchase essential school supplies such as stationery, books and uniforms,” he said.
