A noble act to start the day

What say you on the issue below?

WHETHER it is a hearty meal of piping hot nasi lemak or a healthy bowl of cereals, nothing beats a good breakfast to start the day.

You will have the opportunity to indulge in your favourite breakfast and also do your part for charity by taking part in the Malaysia’s Biggest Breakfast, a charity effort to raise funds for the National Stroke Association of Malaysia (Nasam).

“Just host a breakfast at home or at your office and invite your family, friends and colleagues to enjoy the meal while donating for a good cause.

“It’s a casual fundraising event,” said Nasam patron Toh Puan Dr Aishah Ong.

She was speaking at the launch of the event at the Bangsar Village on Tuesday.

Also present at the event was Nasam founder Janet Yeo.

She said it was the first time the organisation was holding the event and they intend to make it an annual affair.

Participants could choose to host the event either on Oct 30 or 31 at a location of their choice.

The association is aiming to raise about RM1mil from the event.

“The money will be channelled to the running of Nasam’s eight centres and also used to open more,” she said.

She added that Nasam was a non-profit organisation founded in 1995 to provide rehab services for stroke survivors to help them recover from their disabilities.

“Now we have centres in Penang, Ipoh, Petaling Jaya, Ampang, Malacca, Johor Baru, Kuantan and Kota Kinabalu,” she added.

Meanwhile, local celebrity chef Chef Wan has a few creative ideas to ensure the success of the event.

“I will be hosting a breakfast for about 50 friends on one of the days.

“Then I will donate my time and efforts to prepare breakfast for 10 days to anyone who is willing to make the donation to Nasam.

“So those who wish to be part of this can contact me or Nasam and I will come to your home and prepare breakfast for you and your family,” said Wan.

He is also planning to contribute a percentage from the sales of his cookbooks to Nasam.

Patrons of Hakka Republic, a fine dining restaurant and wine bar in Menara Hap Seng could also enjoy an early breakfast on Oct 31 as the management has decided to be part of the charity event.

Its executive director, Sue Lim, said they would extend their service to offer a special breakfast menu on friday night.

“We are not open for breakfast and our outlet serves only lunch and dinner.

“So we have decided to serve breakfast from midnight.

Those who are interested in taking part in the event can contact Nasam at 03-7956 4840.

Hosts will receive goodie bags filled with decorative ballons, place mats and stickers of Malaysia’s Biggest Breakfast.
