PORT DICKSON: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the MCA presidential council should meet as soon as possible to discuss the outcome of yesterday’s extraordinary general meeting.

The Deputy Prime Minister, who is also Barisan Nasional deputy chairman, said this was important to ensure the party remained stable following the decision of the EGM.

“I hope the party’s presidential council will meet as soon as possible on this.

“It is my hope that they will make an intelligent decision,” he told reporters after launching the 1Malaysia Sports Carnival in Jalan Pantai near here.

Muhyiddin said it was important that the MCA remained stable until its next assembly.

He was also glad that the EGM process went smoothly and according to party rules.

“We, as leaders in Barisan, want the MCA problem to be resolved promptly because it has been some time since the party ran into internal problems,” he said.

Muhyiddin also expressed hope that MCA members would now close ranks and unite for the betterment of the party.

When asked for his opinion on the outcome of the EGM, Muhyiddin said there was a silver lining behind every episode.

“The decision could cause a big impact on the Chinese community. It is my sincere hope that the leaders in the party will find an amicable solution to this so that we can have a stronger and more stable MCA,” he added.

Muhyiddin said every Barisan component party wanted other coalition partners to remain stable and their members united.

“We do not want to see prolonged and unending problems in the MCA. That is why we want a quick solution so that the MCA can emerge stronger,” he said.
