Making your own lantern

HOW easy is it to make a lantern? StarMetro reporter THO XIN YI tried her hand at making a simple lantern. Using only basic materials like plain paper plates and glossy paper, she completed a handmade lantern within an hour. See the eight easy step below.

Step 1: Outline pattern or Chinese character on the paper plate.

Step 2: With scissors and craft knife, cut the pattern drew on the paper plates.

Step 3: Attach translucent coloured paper onto the back of the paper plate.

Step 4: Secure the four paper plates together with stapler.

Step 5: Attach another paper plate as base.

Step 6: Decorate the lantern as desired.

Step 7: Attach a string at the top of two opposite paper plates.

Step 8: When the handmade lantern is lit up, interesting shadows are formed.
