KL and Jakarta to sign MoU on defining culture

What say you on the issue below?

KUALA LUMPUR: A memorandum of understanding which will define what constitutes each other’s cultural heritage will be signed between Malaysia and Indonesia next year to avoid further cultural disputes.

Information, Communication and Culture Ministry secretary-general Datuk Kamaruddin Siaraf said the MoU would encompass all aspects of cultural heritage including arts, handicraft, dances and songs.

With the MoU, any cultural disputes between Indonesia and Malaysia would be resolved through negotiations, he told reporters at a Hari Raya celebration organised by the Indonesian Culture and Tourism Ministry here yesterday.

The ministry’s secretary-general Dr Wardiyatmo said the event was part of efforts by the Indonesian government to improve its ties with Malaysia, which had soured lately.

He hoped the programme would open a chapter which would enhance relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.
