THE job market in Johor is poised to make a full recovery as each month dozens of new vacancies are being created.
State Unity, Human Resources, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman M. Asojan said so far there were 33,417 jobs available in the state.
“Even our retrenchments have dropped significantly based on our figures. Last month, we only had 25 people who were retrenched.
“This is a huge reduction compared with the beginning of this year when more than 3,000 people were retrenched,” he said.
Asked whether the retrenchment or job seekers’ information could be manipulated, Asojan said all companies were required to inform the manpower department several months in advance and all information were recorded.
“We take down their full company particulars, number of local and foreign workers affected and reason for them terminating their staff,” he said, adding that as for job seekers, the information was obtained from their online jobsmalaysia system.
Asojan attributed the on-going projects within Iskandar Malaysia and the government’s stimulus packages as helping to cushion the impact and now helping to improve the job market in the state.
“As Iskandar Malaysia develops, a larger work force will surely be needed.
“Based on our August figures, there are 31,913 job seekers registered on JobsMalaysia,” he said, adding that 17,904 of those registered were non-graduates.
He stressed that the state manpower department was regularly holding career carnivals not just in Johor Baru but also in the districts to match both job seekers and their prospective employers.
On training programmes, Asojan said so far there were 656 people under the train-and-place programme.
He added that there were over 80 skills available and among the popular ones were motor mechanics, automotive technician, security and health officer and computer systems technician.
Asojan added that for the duration of the course, which ranges between one and six months, the participants were given an allowance of RM500.
“This scheme is open to all those unemployed or those who want to upgrade their skills,” he said.
