GOMBAK: A fishing trip for five men ended in tragedy, when a tree fell on them, killing two and injuring the rest.
Zainal Mat Tinggi, 25, who escaped with minor injuries, said the group went to a secluded spot near the Klang Gates Dam in Ulu Kelang at 7pm on Saturday before calling it a night four hours later due to heavy rain.
“We were sleeping in a shed under a tree when suddenly we heard a loud cracking sound.
“Some of us woke up and dashed out of the shed,” he said.
“When I called out to my friends and my uncle, only two men responded,” said Zainal.
“My uncle and another friend were silent. I found them dead, pinned under a six-metre tall tree which fell on our shed,” he said of the 1.30am incident.
His uncle, Sambi Sappar, 55, was an Indonesian with PR status and the other victim was his fellow countrymen, identified as Sai, 52, who holds a work permit.
“We hiked for about two hours out of the dense growth in total darkness before being able to contact the police at about 5am,” said Zainal.
Ampang OCPD Asst Comm Abd Jalil Hassan said police and rescue personnel arrived at the scene at about 7.30am.
Zainal and his other friends received outpatient treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
