JOHOR BARU: Malaysia Consumer Claims Tribunal was set up to allow users to file a claim with a quick and cheap. But who would have thought the tribunal was faced with some odd cases.

One of these is the case where a man complained about a shaman who is said to not keep its promise to banish the demons that haunt her.

The 40-year-old complainant asked the tribunal because he wanted to claim refund in respect of the shaman.

The healer who claimed his 70s was interrupted by nine different spirit.

"The shaman's charge RM90 each time she goes 'exorcise the ghost' to free his father from the spirit of the alleged harassment.

"So, his family has spent a total of RM810 for the healer removes all nine of the spirit," said the chairman of the tribunal Johor, Samuel Mut John Brody in an interview.

Samuel said, healer fails to cure the man's father even after nine treatments.

"The man said, his condition worsened and he eventually died a few months later."

The family brought the matter to the tribunal, request a refund for 'services that are not delivered.

The Tribunal had to dismiss the case because it is outside its jurisdiction.

Samuel explains that 'banish the ghosts' are considered as alternative service and the healer did not register your business with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

Samuel said the tribunal increased the number of those who claim the odd.

For example, he said that previously there were several cases involving those looking for a partner.

Someone has to claim the lowest ever recorded in the history of the tribunal which is 10 cents, in the case of rail-related services in the past year.

In May this year, a woman in her 40s, want to claim a refund from a private investigator hired at a rate of 1,500 to find her husband missing.

He claimed that the investigators were not only unable to locate her husband, but disappeared with the money paid to him.

Samuel said the case would not be heard by the tribunal as a private investigator had failed to respond to the notice to attend the hearing.

He was also not registered with SSM.

The Tribunal had to filter out cases that are received to avoid facing cases that are beyond its jurisdiction.

He urged consumers to check the company registration number dealer, ID, full name and other details before buying goods or services to avoid getting ripped off.

Users can claim their rights when they find they have been receiving services that is disproportionate from the seller or service provider, he said.
