PETALING JAYA: Comedian Harith Iskander needs one final push from his fans as he battles the four other remaining contestants for the top spot in the Funniest Person in the World competition.
The results of the finals will be completely determined by online voting so the home grown Malaysian funny man is wholly dependent on the support of his fans in order to clinch the top prize.
“I hope everyone will click on the link and vote for me as I really want to show the world that Malaysia has a world-class comedian.
“I am so happy to be able to bring the Malaysian flag up to the international stage,” Harith told The Star Online.
Voting, in Malaysian time, opened at about 11am on Friday and closes at 1.30pm on Saturday so there are just over 20 hours left for voting.
When asked about how he felt about his performance on stage for the finals, Harith said he was confident.
“I was the first performer on stage so that can be tough since you’ve got to warm up the crowd but I’m pretty confident,” he said.
Harith is up against four other contestants, namely Alex Calleja (Philippines), Mino Van Nassau (India), David Kilimnick (Israel) and Katerina Vrana (Greece).
He had previously defeated 88 other contenders, including fellow Malaysian Dr Jason Leong in the first round.
The winner and title of "The Funniest Person in the World," will receive the grand prize of USD$100,000 (RM444,845), while those in second and third place will receive US$10,000 (RM44,484) and US$5,000 (RM22,242) respectively.
The competition is organised by Laugh Factory, a global comedy chain in the United States.
So the comedian calls on Malaysians to give him their vote.
