PETALING JAYA: Looking for a fun day out, families packed the Klang Valley MRT stations for the second day of its free ride period.
With their two daughters in tow, engineer Stanley Soong, 39, and housewife Lee Yoke Theng, 40, were on their way to shop at 1Utama Shopping Centre, a stone’s throw away from the MRT Mutiara Damansara station.
“I heard about the month-long free ride offer from the news while I was at work on Friday, so I decided to bring my family to try it out the first chance I got.
“It’s convenient because it saves time, and we don’t have to pay for parking or go through the jam,” said Soong, who used the Park & Ride facilities.
Manager Huzary Mohd Tahir and assistant manager Faizah Mohd Zambri, both 44, brought their four children along to hunt for nearby attractions at each of the 12 stations.
“This is the second time my children are taking the train, so they’re very happy and eager.
“It’s comfortable, convenient and helps us save time as we don’t have to drive from our house in Sungai Buloh,” said Faizah.

Purchasing manager Andrew Lee, 41, and head hunter May Ann, 40, had been waiting eagerly for the past five years for the MRT Phileo Damansara near their home to open to the public.
Once it did, they took their two children aged eight and four for a ride and check out attractions nearby the stops.
“We also want to relax and check out the scenery from the train window,” said May.
For married couples, taking the MRT together is another way to keep the romance alive.
Drilling engineer Palvin Kaur, 37, and supply chain worker Ruben Christie, 40, were in stitches recalling their morning episode of taking the feeder bus from the MRT Pusat Bandar Damansara.
“We haven’t done this in a long time. We were confused about where to stop, which buttons to press, but we had a great laugh through it all,” said Palvin.
She added that the MRT turned out to be very impressive and exceeded her expectations.
Lawyer S.K. Liow, 54, was glad that foldable bikes were allowed to be brought on board, as he had planned to cycle to meet his wife once he disembarked at MRT Surian.
“I brought my foldable bicycle along so I could do some cycling and exercise before meeting her.
“I took her out for a nice dinner on Friday and afterwards we went for a free MRT ride,” he said.
