KEMAMAN: The Terengganu government plans to set up an animal preservation sanctuary (safari) at the Kemaman Mini Zoo to raise the number of animal species in future.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said plans for the sanctuary were being prepared and expected to be completed within the next three years.
“When the safari is completed, more animals from African countries including the giraffe will be placed there,” he said after receiving animal contributions from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) represented by its director-general Datuk Abdul Rashid Shamsuddin.
The zoo received 13 lions and two tapirs from Perhilitan as the new attraction for the zoo, with a total of animal population of 250 currently including elephants and and various birds.
Ahmad said the government also intended to provide river cruise facilities from Cukai Town directly to the zoo.
