Jacinth, who is from SJK Chong Hwa 1, was allowed to skip from Year One to Year Three by the Education Ministry and sat for her UPSR when she was 10 years and 10 months old.

She was among the 497,691 candidates who sat for the UPSR 2011 examination at 8,235 examination centres nationwide.

Her father, Peter Soo, a retired teacher, said he was very happy for her and added that his daughter did not attend any tuition classes.

Meanwhile, achieving the highest number of students who scored straight As in their UPSR for nine years in a row since 2003 is no easy feat for SK Bandar Baru Uda 2.

Its headmistress Fauziah Hassan said credited the achievement to its teachers’ efforts and dedication as the recipe to success for the school, whose 83 students out of 264 candidates scored straight As in the recent examinations.

“I am proud of the students but the teachers also deserve a pat on the back for giving their all to help students not only during school hours but also extra classes and tuition on weekends and school holidays,” she said.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Syakir Shamsuddin from SK Sri Perani, Kota Tinggi did not let his eye defect deter him from obtaining all As in the examinations.

Despite suffering from astigmatism, he still managed to work hard and passed with flying colours in the examinations.

“My eldest sister who is do doing her chambering, is my inspiration for working hard and I hope to be a veterinarian some day and make my parents proud.

“My favourite subject is Science and I usually learn more through watching television programmes such as National Geographic Channel and Discovery Channel,” he said.

SJKC Chung Hwa 2 student San Yin Hui, 12, said suffering from connection tissue disorder was not an excuse for her to slack off in her studies.

She however said she felt a little disappointed that she did not score straight A’s in the examinations after working hard for it.

“I did revisions for at least one hour daily and enjoy reading novels in my free time.

“Although I got six As and one B, I still feel a little down as I had high hopes for scoring after getting seven As for my trial examinations,” she said, adding that she wanted to be a doctor when she grows up.
