Temporary fillings for potholes in airport car park

What say you on the issue below?

MOTORISTS entering the Penang International Airport would have to put up with a bumpy ride for the time being, as the potholes that emerged at the airport’s temporary car park will only be patched up, pending the construction of a new multi-storey car park in the same area.

A Malaysian Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) spokesperson said the potholes would not be resurfaced fully as it would be a wastage of funds since the new multi-storey car park would soon be constructed on it.

“However, the management will continue to monitor the condition of the temporary car park on a weekly basis and will patch up large potholes from time to time,” he said.

He also said the potholes started appearing due to the rainy weather in Penang for the past few weeks.

“Usually, the temporary filling may last more than six months under normal weather conditions but due to the current rainy season, the patch may last for not more than three months,” said the spokesperson.

He added that once work on the car park had started, the contractor responsible would then have to allocate a new site to house the temporary car park.

“According to the schedule, work on the multi-storey car park should commence by March 2012 and be completed by the end of 2013,” he said.

The Penang International Airport is undergoing a RM250mil expansion exercise and reno- vation work is scheduled to be completed by June 2012.
