FOR many years, several illegal structures have occupied the land opposite a row of houses on Jalan AU3/31 in Keramat, Ampang.
Along the stretch on the no man’s land lies a bridal gallery, workshop, storage area as well as a squatter house.
The premises are believed to belong to a few residents who have taken the land for their own use.
A house owner in the same row operates a workshop in front of his house.
Mohd Yusof, who has been living in the area for many years, is fed up with the lack of law enforcement by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) .
“There are many cars that block the road in front of the workshop. Oil spillage and noise pollution are the other problems brought about by the workshop.
“This is blatant abuse by the people, who are just ignoring the law just because they own a house here,” he said.
Yusof added the once peaceful living condition of the place has been marred by ignorant individuals.
“I think people should have common civic consciousness when it comes to doing things in their own neighbourhood,” he said.
During a check on Jalan AU3/31, StarMetro found that the workshop was operated by one of the residents.
There is a row of cars parked for repair while the rest were parked under a shed built opposite the house.
As for the bridal gallery and storage area, they were closed for the day.
It was mentioned during the last MPAJ fullboard meeting that all illegal extensions should be submitted to the council for approvals and permits.
The move was taken in order to resolve neighbourly issues, which was dominating the council’s complaint list.
Meanwhile, MPAJ public relations officer Norhayati Ahmad said the council have identified 31 structures in the area that were formerly stalls.
“We will bring the matter to the fullboard meeting for the next course of action. For now we will get the planning department to survey the area,” she said.
