THE rainy season is a cause for concern for residents from the Miharja Flats as flashfloods are likely to occur during downpours along the Jalan Loke Yew underpass, closing off two access roads to the area.
This underpass connects Jalan 1/93 and Jalan Lombong and was completed less than three years ago.
While most flashfloods occur only when a heavy downpour ensues, this area sees waters quickly rising as high as one foot even during regular rain.
According to a resident who does not wish to be named, this problem was a recent occurrence.
“When the underpass first opened, things were fine. However, some time later a new slip road close to the underpass was completed and the flooding began soon after,” he said.
A Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) spokesman said the local authority was aware of the situation.
“Our officers have visited the area and are currently in the process of detemining the source of the problem,” he said, adding that at this point the problem could be anything from a blocked drain to an improperly built one.
The spokesman said rectification works and the unit to carry them out will only be determined once the source of this problem had been identified.
