The event, organised by the Race Walkers Association of Malaysia (RWAM), will start at 8pm on Dec 11 and end at 8am the following day.

RWAM president Datuk Eddy Chen said they were expecting about 800 participants for the championship.

Full backing: The organising committee with the sponsors.

“We have received encouraging response from overseas. We have already received 750 entries. We hope to reach the target of 800 walkers before the end of the month,’’ said Eddy.

The participants are from France, Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Japan and Germany. Hong Kong have registered 26 participants.

Eddy said they were expecting the bulk of the participants to come from Malaysia.

“The event is an excellent opportunity for Malaysian walkers to test their endurance. They can walk at their own pace. Of course the winners will be decided on the distance covered within 12 hours,’’ said Eddy.

The sponsors for the event are Yeo’s H2O Isotonic Water, Delfi Marketing (Eagle Balm and Salonpas), Southern Lion (Shokubutsu, Sport Fresh) and Samsung Malaysia.

Samsung Malaysia are providing their products as prizes for the lucky draw. Visit www.racewalkermalaysia.com for details.
