THE state government is in the midst of improving and upgrading its health services by setting up four new health clinics in three districts.
Perak Health Committee chairman Dr Mah Hang Soon (BN-Chenderiang) said the state is currently setting up health clinics in the Larut Selama and Matang, Kerian and Kuala Kangsar districts.
“We are also upgrading several rural clinics to become health clinics by upgrading their facilities and stationing an assistant medical officer there. This will be done in stages.
“As of now, we have already reassigned assistant medical officers to 10 different rural clinics,” he said, adding that there were a total of 75 health clinics and 256 rural clinics in the state.
He was replying to a question by Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad (BN-Bukit Chandan) on whether the state planned to provide better health services for the people during the Perak State Assembly on Wednesday.
Dr Mah also said that qualified health officers and personnel with training in renal treatment, basic health treatment, orthopaedics and midwifery, were being assigned to health clinics and haemodialysis centres in the state.
“We have about 110 paramedic personnel with post-basic renal training,” he added.
In reply to a supplementary question by Datuk Nadzri Ismail (BN-Manjoi) on the total number of kidney patients seeking treatment in the state, Dr Mah said there were about 2,075 such patients.
“About 448 of them are seeking treatment at government hospitals while 1,627 are seeking treatment at private haemodialysis centres and hospitals.
“We have 13 government hospitals and four private hospitals providing haemodialysis treatment,” he added.
