THE garden setting of Garden Street Homes in the Seremban 2 township has been replaced by bags of garden and bulk waste all along the roads.
Garden waste has not been collected since September in the housing estate, one of the first gated communities in Seremban 2.
Residents said they had no choice but to leave the bags of waste along the roads.
However, there are now old sofas and empty plastic containers and cardboard boxes among the rubbish lining the streets.
Jegan Anthony, 45, said since he moved into the housing estate eight years ago, this was the worst he had seen with almost all available space along the roads being used as dumping grounds.
“This is an exclusive neighbourhood and my guests have even commented on how unsightly it has become,’’ said Anthony.
Another resident, who did not want to be named, said when he called the Seremban Municipal Council (MPS) he was told that the residents could separate the garden waste and leave them along the roads for collection.
“It is three months now and the problem is getting out of control with indiscriminate dumping.
“Sometimes there is also domestic waste found among the piles,’’ said the resident.
When contacted, MPS public relations officer Nor Mursydah Chik said the council only provided domestic waste collection and residents must hire a contractor to remove garden waste.
“We do not provide such services but the residents can contact MPS for assistance. We could also help them in a community clean-up exercise if required,’’ said Nor Mursydah.
She said it was not proper for the residents to leave their garden waste along the roads.
“Garden waste should be kept in the compounds of the houses.
“Residents who leave their rubbish along the roads could be fined for illegal dumping,’’ added Nor Mursydah.
She said an enforcement team would meet the residents and work out a solution to clear the area of rubbish within a week.
