UNIVERSITI Sains Malaysia (USM) has signed a letter of intent (LoI) with AirAsia Bhd to engage the low-cost carrier to provide economical flight services for its staff who travel on duty.
USM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Omar Osman said the university often sent its academicians and students abroad for research, teaching and learning purposes.
“With the airline, our staff and students are assured of reaching their destinations on time,” he said after the LOI signing ceremony at the university.
AirAsia Bhd’s Government & Middle East Business Development regional head Datuk Abdul Nasser Abu Kassim said USM made a wise decision as the airline offered fares 50% lower than the other airlines.
“USM is also entitled to more flexible terms and conditions such as being given free check-in baggage of 30kg for economy class and 40kg for premium class,” he said.
The LoI is effective for a one year period from Nov 22.
