THE Penang Beach Carnival 2011 is back this Sunday from 7am to 11pm with 26 different activities to look forward.
It will be held on the beach at Golden Sands Resort in Batu Ferringhi.
With the theme ‘Towards a Harmonised Community’, the event will kick off in the morning with kabbadi, sandcastle building, tug-of-war, a photography competition, beach aerobics, futsal and volleyball.
Shortly after, there will be yoga sessions, fishing, colouring contests, jigsaw puzzle fixing, optimist and wind surfing competitions, along with the Mr Penang Beach Carnival 2011 bodybuilding showdown.
In addition, there will be special rates for entrance to the Golden Sands Resort Adventure Zone which kids are bound to love.
Soak in the red hot action of skimboarders and dragon boat racers on the water, and take in traditional games, chingay kite flying and demonstrations of bunga rampai and inai.
The Eastin Challenge Trophy Cooking Competition 2011 will see the best local chefs engage in a culinary battle.
Setting this year’s beach carnival apart is the introduction of cultural performances including Punjabi and Indian dances, Chinese opera, and Baba and Nyonya musical performances which are set to take place in the evening.
“It’s a great way to show tourists that Penang is a cultural melting pot, where people of all races and religions partake in activities together,” said state Youth and Sports, Women, Family and Community Development chairman Lydia Ong Kok Fooi.
The organisers expect a big crowd numbering in the thousands to throng the beach throughout the day.
