CONSTRUCTION of Perak’s first Chinese Muslim mosque has commenced after having been delayed for over a year.
A groundbreaking ceremony was conducted at the project site in Taman Tasek Jaya during a Hari Raya open house organised by the Chinese Muslim Association of Ipoh recently.
The mosque, to be built in two phases, is expected to cost RM3.8mil.

“To-date, we have collected RM3.5mil,” he said, adding that the mosque’s prayer hall and other facilities would be completed by 2013 under the first phase.
“The second phase involves the setting up of a cultural centre, which we hope to start work on by next year,” he added.
Dr Fadzli had previously said that the mosque, with a prayer hall that could accommodate up to 1,000 worshippers, would bear Chinese motifs inspired by similar mosques in China, Rantau Panjang in Kelantan and Surabaya in Indonesia.
“The purpose of having this mosque is to spread the message of Islam as a universal religion.
“It is not confined to a certain race or heritage,” he said.
The association, he added, was thankful to Raja Muda of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah and Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir for helping out with the funding for the mosque.
“The Raja Muda, as the state Islamic Affairs and Malay Customs Council president, gave RM2mil to kick start the fund while Dr Zambry sought the help of Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to allocate RM1mil to the association,” he said.
