Shortage of space for motorists after Atria’s car park is closed

What say you on the issue below?

THE closure of The Atria shopping centre in Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya, for redevelopment has caused a parking nightmare for people working in the commercial area.

Human resource manager Ann Yeow said many people working in the area used to park their cars at the Atria’s multi-level car park but now were left with no choice but to double-park or park along roads with a yellow line.

Due to the lack of parking, some had opted to pay for the season parking at The Atria.

Woeful state: The lack of parking space at the Damansara Jaya commercial centre. Motorists are forced to double-park along the roads.

Yeow said many motorists received notices from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) that their cars would be towed if they continued to double park along the roads.

“Right now, we don’t have any other place to park,” she said.

Yeow said motorists were puzzled because the notices were dated Aug 22 but only delivered on Sept 19.

She said her colleagues who parked their cars further away near the SK Damansara Jaya about 200m away had their wheels stolen.

Damansara Jaya Residents and Owners Association chairman Datuk Yew Cheng Hoe said they had received complaints from residents on the parking problem.

Yellow warning: Those working in the commercial area were given notices that their cars would be towed away if they continued to double park.

He hoped the MBPJ could come up with a win-win solution for both residents and those working in the commercial area.

MBPJ councillor for the area Terrence Tan said he would be meeting the enforcement department to discuss the matter and find a temporary solution for the problem.

An MBPJ spokesman said they had already started sending out the towing notices a month ago.
