IT CERTAINLY was a good match — tanned, square-shouldered, chiselled-faced Huang Xiaoming and Tissot.
The China-born actor was in Kuala Lumpur recently to launch the Swiss brand’s Seastar 1000 Automatic range.
Just like its ambassador, the timepiece is equally striking in looks and substance.
The watch, designed and crafted for divers, is water-resistant up to 300m, highly readable thanks to super luminous markings, and equipped with diver extension on the strap and a helium valve that enables automatic depressurisation.
There are 10 models in this collection, including an ocean-inspired blue piece with PVD finish and chronographs with 48mm case.
Tissot Malaysia vice-president Ian Lee said the Seastar 1000 Automatic reaffirmed Tissot’s talent for “encapsulating operational excellence.”
And Huang’s presence generated the buzz and attention it deserved.
The celebrity hunk, who was most recently noted for his role in the Chinese kungfu movie Ip Man 2, arrived at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur in an open-top Maserati.
On stage in the mall’s concourse area, he greeted his audience with the requisite “apa khabar?” before making way for a fashion show of models wearing diving suits to complement the watches.
After the show, Huang obliged emcee Lynn Lim with a 10-minute chat, touching on subjects ranging from the Seastar 1000 to his involvement in charity work.
Incidentally, Huang is known as “Panda Daddy” after he adopted twin cubs at the Giant Panda Breeding Centre in Sichuan, China.
He had also worked as a volunteer helping victims of an earthquake a few years ago.
He became a Tissot ambassador in 2009, and as the company has stated: “Huang Xiaoming embodies the values of the brand — committed, dynamic yet versatile.”
Like we said, a good match!
Tissot Seastar 1000 Automatic collection is priced from RM2,450 and available at Tissot boutiques in Suria KLCC, Fahrenheit 88, Mid Valley Megamall (all in Kuala Lumpur) and 1Utama in Petaling Jaya.
