EXPECTANT mother Nor Azirera Kamarul Azuan was cheering for her husband who was marching in a parade during the National Day and Malaysia Day joint celebration at the Ipoh City Hall on Friday when her water broke.
The 24-year-old clerk was rushed to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital where she delivered a 2.4kg baby boy at about 1.30pm on the auspicious day.
“I was totally unprepared as my due date was about three weeks from now,” Nor Azirera said when met during a visit by Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Senator Heng Seai Kie at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital maternity ward here.
“I think my baby was also feeling excited and wanted to see the parade too,” she joked.
Nor Azirera said she felt a wet sensation streaking down her legs right after her husband, an army personnel had marched past her.
“I was fortunate that my friend was beside me and kept me calm.
“We then walked about 800m to my car that was parked at Medan Kidd and she drove me to the hospital,” she said, adding that the yet-to-be-named baby boy was her second child.
Heng said the final tally of “Malaysia Day” babies at the hospital was 29.
“We are still tabulating the number of babies born on Sept 16 throughout the country,” she said.
Heng said 35,000 babies were delivered in the state last year.
“About 13,000 babies were delivered at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital,” she added.
