Spirit of patriotism and unity on wheels

What say you on the issue below?

JOHOR BARU: Over 20 cars and 17 motorbikes including Proton Wira, Toyota Vios, Yamaha, Honda made up part of the convoy to promote racial unity and spirit of patriotism in conjunction with the country’s national day.

Bukit Indah community policing chairman Yap Keng Tak said he was happy that they managed to get the support of the community to organise the event despite the short notice.

He added that a total of 90 members of the Bukit Indah community policing including four women took part in the convoy.

Besides flying the national flag, they also drove around the neighbourhood for about 10 kilometres before meeting up at the Bukit Indah police station to proclaim Merdeka three times.

Yap added that the convoy which kicked off from Bukit Indah police station, returned to the starting point about an hour later.

“We are holding this event for the first time and hope to make it a bigger and better event with more members in future,” he said.

A member of the community policing team Mohamad Rafi Mohamad Ali, 27, who joined the team about two months ago said he was glad that he could take part in the convoy.

“Although it is the first day if Raya I am still happy that I could take part in the convoy to show my support and respect towards the country on national day,” he said.

Another community policing member J. Ravi, who has been a member in the community policing for three years now, said he was proud to be part of the convoy.

“This is one way to show my loyalty to the country on national day instead of spending time at home during the holiday,” said the 34-year-old.

For 32-year-old Ang Wee Kim taking part in such an event is important for not only the community policing members but also the public.

“Every one of us should show our support as well as the patriotic spirit not only during the national day but on any other days too,” he said hoping that more people would take part in the event next year.
