KUALA LUMPUR: MCA treasurer-general Tan Sri Tee Hock Seng has called on party members to give their president a chance to prove himself.
“The central delegates elected Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and their decision should be respected,” he said at his office at Wisma MCA here yesterday.
Tee was asked to comment on speculations that an extraordinary general meeting was being planned to remove Ong.
He said such a meeting was unnecessary.
“Our members are mature and intelligent.
“They know what they should do.
“At this point of time, we should focus on issues that will benefit the people, the party and the country,’’ he said.
Tee said Ong only took office last year and it was too soon to reject his leadership.
“Give him a chance and judge his performance when his term is completed.
“If he has not performed by then, elect a new president at the party election,’’ he said.
