GEORGE TOWN: Police believe they have recovered an abandoned stolen luxury car involved in a spate of robberies allegedly committed by the notorious Mamak Gang.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azam Abdul Hamid said the black sports utility vehicle worth RM800,000 was a company car registered with DRB-Hicom Holdings.
He said the car was found in front of a mansion at Jalan Scotland with the engine running about 9.30pm on Tuesday.
Azam said the mansion owner alerted the police after seeing nobody in the car.
"The raiding team waited for two hours to see if anyone returned to claim the vehicle but nobody showed up.
"We do not rule out the possibility that the car was left behind by the Mamak Gang."
He said the car was reported missing in Selangor last Sunday.
