KUALA LUMPUR: Anticipating stormy days ahead, MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat stressed that the party leadership will remain united in overcoming future challenges.

"It is clear that the party leadership is united in its stand to overcome the challenges that may arise.

"Our focus is not on excessive politicking but in serving the people first," he said in his five-paragraph posting in his blog at www.ongteekeat.net.

MCA, which has been split and disunited as a result of a rocky relationship between Ong and his sacked deputy Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, took a turn for the worst when the sacking led to a group of grassroots leaders initiating a signature campaign to convene an extraordinary general meeting .

The EGM seeks to oust Ong and reinstate Dr Chua.

Many members, who are dissatisfied with the sacking of Dr Chua, had already pledged their support for an EGM.

Ong said yesterday he had fruitful meeting with Barisan Nasional chairman and prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Thursday.

Accompanied by vice-presidents Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha, Ong said he explained to Najib the decision taken by the presidential council to expel Dr Chua.

"We are deeply aware that the decision to expel the former deputy president may cause concern among component party members of the Barisan Nasional.

"Najib's stand to allow MCA to solve its internal issues without his interference is appreciated.

"I am also grateful for Najib's advice to resolve this matter as swiftly as possible."
