KUALA LUMPUR: Every day, Abdul Rahman Mat Daud's family goes to bed worrying that tomorrow they may be buried under a pile of plywood and zinc.
The odd-job labourer, who was evicted from his rented house eight months ago, built the house with his bare hands so that his children would have a roof over their heads.
"It's been hard. But I try my best as I want a better future for my children. I do not want them to go through the struggles that I have been through."
The family of six have no access to clean water and electricity and do their laundry and bathe in the river situated near their house.

They also get their drinking water from the same river.
But soon their worries will be over as the family will be given a new home next month, courtesy of Tabung Maybank Sejahtera.
The special fund is set up by Maybank in partnership with The New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad to help boost Khazanah Nasional Berhad's "Yayasan Sejahtera" initiative.
The programme aims to provide homes to poor families and assist them in earning a stable income.
Khazanah Nasional Berhad managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar said the programme was developed to offer a long-term solution in alleviating poverty and providing sustainable livelihood for the less fortunate.
Contributions to Tabung Maybank Sejahtera can be made during the campaign period until Sept 20 via Maybank account number 5-64016-12169-5.
