DUBAI: The Malaysia Education Promotion Centre in Dubai will bring selected Malaysian higher learning institutions to participate in an international education fair in Libya in October.

Its regional director for Middle East and North Africa, Shushilil Azam Shuib, said the move was in line with efforts to increase the number of Libyan students in Malaysia.

"We'll choose only the best universities for the Oct 19 to 21 event in Tripoli," he said yesterday.

Shushilil Azam said there were currently close to 1,800 Libyan students in Malaysia and the target was to have 5,000 students from the north African nation by 2013.

According to him, Libyans felt Malaysia could provide pointers on how to achieve further development and progress.

"They are encouraging students to go to Malaysia and learn more about how we go about building our country through education and development efforts."

He feels Libyans have much faith in what Malaysian education had to offer.

"And we, at MEPC Dubai, as well as the Malaysian Higher Education Ministry, are giving serious attention to the Libyan market to meet their expectations."
